Update: July 19th 2004
Av Randy Reynolds
Sorry for the long delay in our latest news update. Much has happened these last 4 months...we have launched two more boats including the super fast turbo called Cat Attack, raced numerous races including the Ensenada race, started the plug frames of the new R44 Cat (due to demand, the R40 and R50 evolved to a one boat concept...the R44, satisfying both markets with one boat), changed builders from Pacific Seacraft to Corsair Marine (that's right...Corsair Marine, builders of high quality trimarans) and lastly, have finalized phase 3 of our business plan calling for the final line of R boats, a new pricing structure and the creation of a Reynolds Sailing Dealer network. First, the new Reynolds Sailing line of boats, pricing and dealer network program
New R33 model, pricing and distribution for the new 2005 R33 Cat
After building 8 boats and delivering them to their owners we our now confident in our ability to build a high quality production boat. We knew at some point we would have to select one model from the four R33 models offered, raise the price of the boat, and sell the boat through a strong dealer network to create a successful class of boats adding long term value for their owners.
The new 2005 R33 Catamaran we have selected to produce as our only model is the culmination of building short and tall rigs, wide and narrow beamed R33 cats. We believe we have selected the best combination of performance, pricing and beam for safety and storage in the new model.
The new R33 Catamaran is 14 feet wide and comes with a 48 foot tall rig. Her all around performance is better than the Tall Rig and just slightly less than the Turbo...all this performance yet easy to slip in a standard 35 foot mono-hull slip. We believe that the new R33 beam will help cross over the mono-hull gap allowing sailors who would not look at multihulls due to storage problems. No mooring or end tie slip required to store this super fast (-100 PER) multi-hull. Our hull flying time is hardly noticeably different from the 16 foot wide boats (about 1 knot different) and actually performs better in a variety of conditions...similar to the high performance A-Class catamarans.
The new boat is also 400 lbs lighter and is equipped with all Harken gear, Carbon sails and only comes with the highest quality equipment. The boat comes standard with 3 sails (Carbon mainsail, jib and roller furling reacher), engine mount, solar powered electrical system and complete interior package including cushions, stove and two heads! Just add an engine and your off and sailing. This high performance sail away package is $128,750 sold through a dealer network. Go to our R33 price page for more details on pricing.
We have also changed the way we distribute the R33 Cat. No more factory direct sales. We will assist sailors and dealers with the R33 Cat but to purchase one you must now go through an authorized R33 catamaran dealer. We will be announcing our dealers very soon as they receive their boats in the following months. A Dealer Referral page will be added shortly as we plan to have an extensive national and worldwide dealer network.

The R44 catamaran
Due to demand the R40 and R50 evolved to a one boat concept...the R44, satisfying both markets with one boat. The frames have been digitized and we will be erecting the plug very shortly. Be watching for future updates and pictures of this exciting project.
New Builder
We are happy to announce we have contracted Corsair Marine to build all the fiberglass components of the R33 catamaran. Corsair Marine is the leader in building high quality trailerable trimarans. They have a sophisticated laminating process that has allowed us to save 200 lbs per hull allowing a 400 lbs weight savings in the overall weight of the boat. We look forward to building many R33 catamarans with Paul, James, Kurt and the gang at Corsair!
Racing
The last 4 months have been busy on the race course as well. We finished 4th and 5th on corrected in class and on 4th and 5th on overall elapsed time in the Ensenada Race. Afterburner (54 foot catamaran), Magnitude (new 80 foot super sled) and Alchemy (new 77 foot super sled) were the only boats to beat us down the 125 mile race course out of 450 boats. We have also been racing in many numerous local races again usually finishing first on elapsed time with many great stories. Our rating has been fine tuned to -77 PHRF for the 48 foot rig and -108 for my custom R33 turbo called Cat Attack. We are excited about racing the new 2005 R33 in the next couple months. A more detailed account will accompany the 2005 R33 racing debut. We expect to receive a rating around -100 for the new boat.
R33 Foiler Project
The project is currently on hold as we get the new 2005 R33 in production. However to expedite the foiler project we have designed a proto-type utilizing the R33 main hull and two inter 20 hulls as amas. Greg Ketterman (designer of the Tri-foiler) would design the foils and system. We have been sailing the Hobie Trifoiler in extreme conditions learning what it will do in a larger version in larger seas. The testing has been quite encouraging as the Tri-foiler has shown to be quite seaworthy for such a spindly looking craft. Keep looking for updates!
Summary
We are very excited about the rest of the year. We are in production with the R33 and the R44 will be started soon. I will have more time to help promote and spread the word about these three boats allowing the classes to grow
It should be an exciting 2004 with 2005 just around the corner!
If you have any questions on the R33, R44 or R33 Foiler please dont hesitate to email or call me at 800-366-8584. I will be happy to answer any questions you have about our company and new line of exciting catamarans.
Till next time
Fast Sailing!
